Project Details:
Stowe, VT
Lager Brewery / Restaurant / PEMB
Project Overview:
A complete brewery operation and adjoining Beer Hall, with storage and fermentation tanks specially designed for Austrian craft lagers
Located at the world-famous Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont, von Trapp Brewing produces an array of year-round and seasonal lagers, with a capacity of up to 50,000 barrels of beer annually.
Lager beers pose a unique brewing challenge, requiring cooler temperatures and a longer time to mature, so this 35,000 SF brewing facility was designed to meet their specific needs, including a highly energy-efficient thermal envelope. Solar tracking skylights, combined with daylighting technologies, add to its energy efficiency. The brewery has open patron viewing, as well as tasting and point-of-sale areas.
Adjacent to the brewery, an 8,635 SF restaurant facility was constructed, known as the von Trapp Beer Hall. This timber frame structure, with detailed exterior and interior trim, houses a full scale restaurant with commercial kitchen and wood fired cooking amenities. An exterior patio and attached four season enclosed winter garden greenhouse, provides an additional seating area.
