Project Overview:
Historic restoration and modern addition to an existing two-story wood-framed structure in Barre, VT.
The project scope included extensive demolition, winterization, stabilization, and restoration to preserve and adapt the original historic portion of the building for its next chapter of occupancy. As a contributing structure to the city’s historic fabric, the project required extensive demolition, winterization, and structural stabilization. Original woodworking details, specialty finishes, and historic wood windows were meticulously preserved, while features like the porch and exterior siding were custom replicated. All new plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems were also integrated in the existing building with a focus on discreet installation and system incorporation.
A single-story energy-efficient addition completes the 7,750 sf facility, providing state-of-the-art mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, additional program area, and a seamless extension to the historic building. The area developed for the new addition, and on-site parking, required the remediation and removal of existing hazardous soils.
This new community healthcare facility hosts beautiful and flexible coaching, wellness, meeting, office, administrative and supports spaces for the Turning Point program to continue to serve the Central Vermont community for years to come.
