Vermont Zen Center

Shelburne, VT

It’s hard to picture a burly construction crew embracing Zen practices, but that’s exactly what happened when we renovated and expanded this quiet, pastoral retreat. There was no smoking, no meat, and nearly fanatical daily clean up as we built a 3,000-square-foot meditation room and a new meeting hall. Hidden notes of appreciation scrawled on building studs and freshly baked cookies every day were plenty of thanks.
